Britney Spears’ team is speaking out hours after the singer was arrested for driving under the influence.
“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,” Spears’ rep said in a statement to Us Weekly on Thursday, March 5. “Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”
Spears, 44 — who shares sons Preston, 20, and Jayden, 19, with ex Kevin Federline — was taken into police custody on Wednesday, March 4, at 9:28 p.m., according to Ventura County Sheriff’s Office records.
She was booked on Thursday at 3:02 a.m. and released at 6:07 a.m. Online records confirm Spears’ next court date is scheduled for Monday, May 4.
“Her boys are going to be spending time with her,” Spears’ rep said in a statement. “Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue, needed plan to set her up for success for well-being.”
Us has reached out to Ventura County police for further comment.
After Spears’ arrest was made public, fans noticed that the singer’s Instagram was deactivated. One of her last posts before the arrest was a video of Spears dancing for the camera.

News of Spears’ DUI comes nearly five years after her conservatorship ended in November 2021.
Instead of working on new music, the former All-New Mickey Mouse Club star tried to keep a low profile in her Southern California neighborhood as she worked to build a stronger relationship with her sons.
One way she was bonding with her youngest child was by supporting his musical dreams.
“She’s helping him connect with some producers she’s worked with in the past,” a source exclusively revealed to Us in January. “She definitely wants him to utilize her old relationships so he’s protected and guided through this.”
Spears has repeatedly stated that she “retired” from her illustrious music career. Earlier this year, the “Oops!… I Did It Again” singer sold the rights to her music catalog in a deal that a source revealed was close to $200 million.
“The deal was in the works for a while now and was a decision made solely by Britney,” the insider said. “She felt now was the right time for her and feels like she closed that chapter of her life. She has no plans to put out new music publicly but has been having fun working with [her aspiring musician son] Jayden in that capacity. She really is done with the music industry.”
