After getting a glimpse at Jesse Lee Soffer and Tracy Spiridakos back together on the One Chicago crossover, fans want more from the actors and they’re happy to oblige.
Soffer, 41, exclusively told Us Weekly on Tuesday, March 3, that in order for his Chicago P.D. character, Jay Halstead, and Spiridakos’ Hailey Upton to give their romance a “second chance,” it might take “another crossover.”
Spiridakos, 38, noted that she thinks there is a chance it could happen, teasing that both actors “would love to come back and play.”
During the Wednesday, March 4, One Chicago crossover event, Upton returned as an FBI agent to Chicago to help with a case involving the deaths of an entire plane from an unknown cause.
She later revealed she was initially tracking a drug trafficker — the one who was carrying a toxin on the plane into the city before it ruptured and killed everyone on board — because of his link to Halstead.
Halstead, for his part, came into town because of his connection to the trafficker but later told Upton he stayed because she was there.
The former TV couple — who were married until Halstead left during season 10 for a new gig and never returned — had a heart-to-heart during the final moments of the episode where Halstead admitted he was “sorry I lost you” to Upton.

Upton gave him a bit of an olive branch, asking him for a drink. The pair shared a cheeky glance and left the squad room together.
“I don’t know if it’s a new beginning, but I think it’s opened the door to have further conversations,” Spiridakos told Us of the sweet moment. “That the end moment between them is like, ‘OK, I will accept a conversation.’ And that’s about as far as she can go.”
While Soffer and Spiridakos don’t have any more Chicago P.D. cameos planned for this season, they teased they’re open to a possible spinoff.
“That’d be pretty cool,” Soffer told Us when the idea came up. Spiridakos agreed, adding, “That’d be awesome for sure.”
Soffer, who starred on Chicago P.D. from its 2014 premiere to season 10 in 2022, revealed that spinoff or not, he hopes that “if there was ever a last episode of P.D.” that “Halstead has got to be in it.” He added that the show is “in my bones.”
While nothing is set in stone, Chicago P.D. showrunner Gwen Sigan exclusively told Us on Tuesday that “anytime” Soffer and Spiridakos “want to come, they are welcome.”
Spiridakos — who exited the show in 2024 after joining the cast during season 4 in 2017 — noted that playing love interests on another project could also work.
“We both love working with each other,” she shared. “We have so much fun, and we’re very collaborative and enjoy how we work together. So, yeah.”
As fans wait to see when the actors, who are dating in real life, are back together on Chicago P.D., Spiridakos and Soffer are mulling over other possible collaborations.
Spiridakos’ Anna Pigeon, which premieres on USA Network later this year, could be just the ticket. (The actress will play the titular character, a former city girl who becomes a park ranger after a tragic loss changed her life. Along the way she finds herself solving crimes in the National Park.)

“Oh, my God, that’d be amazing,” Spiridakos told Us after being asked if she’d like to have Soffer guest star. “We’ll have to do some calling [around to the] producers and [have] conversations, but yeah, that’d be really fun.”
The actress started to laugh, asking Soffer, “Could you imagine you’re a ranger? That’d be great.”
Soffer laughed back, replying, “That’d be crazy. The green hat, little green hat.” Spiridakos said she “loves” the idea, while Soffer confessed it would be “so funny.”
Chicago P.D. airs on NBC Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET.
