Jeannie Mai is back on the dating scene — but this time, riding solo — after her divorce from rapper Jeezy.
The daytime personality, 47, had fans thinking she was romancing a new suitor before sharing that she decided to enjoy a night out by herself.
“I went on a date. That sentence might sound simple… but for me, it took a lot of courage to say yes to this moment,” she wrote in her Instagram caption on Thursday, March 5, revealing she documented her experience in a YouTube video shared on her account.
“After everything life has taught me the past few years, showing up again — open, curious, a little nervous — felt like a quiet victory. I brought you with me for the whole night.”
In her YouTube video, Mai said that dating in Los Angeles can feel like a “full-on sport” because a lot of people are “emotionally unavailable.”
She noted that looking for love at 47 means “not trying to be chosen.” This time around, Mai is “deciding” on who is the best match for her and that includes if she is able to be “fully me when I’m with you.”

While getting ready for the evening, Mai said that it was tough to find the right outfit, quipping that it “tells you how not outside I’ve been.”
Mai shared some of her daily affirmations, one of which was “I’m not shrinking my shine to make someone else comfortable.” As she put on her makeup, the TV star said that one of the most valuable lessons she learned was to never “abandon myself” ever again.
She ultimately decided on a matte black leather off-the-shoulder dress with matching pumps and a handbag.
When a waiter came up and asked her if she was “waiting for anybody else,” she flashed a smile and confirmed that she wasn’t, proudly adding, “because I’m taking myself out on a date.”
Prior to her latest post, Mai recently opened up about how tough it was to embrace her single era after she finalized her divorce from Jeezy (real name Jay Wayne Jenkins) in June 2024. (The exes share a daughter together: Monaco, 4.)
“Divorce is heartbreaking, no matter what,” Mai said on the January 29 episode of iHeartRadio’s “Question Everything” podcast. “It’s one of the greatest pains that any human has to endure, honestly.”
Prior to Jeezy, she was previously married to Freddy Harteis for more than a decade, tying the knot in 2007 before divorcing in 2018.
“I’m never gonna regret that I got married because I’m so thankful to have experienced love in so many different ways,” she added. “Now I just have to — instead of experiencing love, ’cause I’ve got that down — I have to define what healthy love looks like for me. But that first starts with me.”
