Savannah Guthrie made an appearance on the Today show for the first time since her mom, Nancy Guthrie, was reported missing.
“Savannah Guthrie stopped by the studio this morning to be with and thank her Today colleagues,” read a statement from NBC after the coanchor, 54, was photographed at the NBC morning show on Thursday, March 5. “While she plans to return to the show on air, she remains focused right now supporting her family and working to help bring Nancy home.”
Nancy was last seen at her home in Arizona after she was dropped off by family on January 31. One day later, Nancy did not attend a virtual service for her church, which caused alarm as her family reported her missing.
Amid the search for Nancy, Savannah took a hiatus from the Today show, with Hoda Kotb and Sheinelle Jones filling in for her.
“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support. Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom,” the Guthrie family said in a statement at the time. “We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900.”
The day after Nancy was reported missing, Savannah posted a heartfelt message about the situation via Instagram.
“We believe in prayer. We believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope. We believe in goodness. We believe in humanity. Above all, we believe in Him,” she wrote in February. “Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant. Raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment.”
She went on to share a Bible verse, adding, “We need you. ‘He will keep in perfect peace those whose hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.’ A verse of Isaiah for all time for all of us.”
Savannah concluded, “Bring her home.”
Days later, Savannah’s siblings, Annie and Camron Guthrie, joined her in an emotional Instagram video.
“Mommy, if you are hearing this, you are a strong woman. You are God’s precious daughter, Nancy,” Savannah said. “We believe and know that even in this valley, He is with you. Everyone is looking for you, Mommy, everywhere. We will not rest. Your children will not rest until we are together again. We speak to you every moment. And we pray without ceasing, and we rejoice in advance that the day that we hold you in our arms again. We love you, Mom.”
As the search for Nancy has stretched into a second month, the FBI released surveillance footage featuring a possible person of interest. The individual wore a ski mask in the clip released to the public and detectives have referred to the suspect as a “male, approximately 5’9” – 5’10” tall, with an average build.
Savannah and her siblings have also issued a reward of $1 million, which would be paid “only for the recovery” of Nancy. Savannah recently encouraged those who know something that could aid the case to contact the FBI while noting that callers “can remain anonymous” or “find a way to reach out to me.”
“Coming on to say it is day 24 since our mom was taken in the dark of night from her bed, and every hour and minute and second and every long night has been agony since then, of worrying about her and fearing for her, aching for her, and most of all, just missing her, missing her,” she said in an Instagram video late last month. “We know that millions of you have been praying. So many people have been praying of every faith and no faith at all, praying for her return, and we feel those prayers. Please keep praying without ceasing. We still believe. We still believe in a miracle.”
