Britney Spears’ inner circle thinks it’s time for “drastic measures” to be taken after her DUI arrest.
“Her team wants her in rehab or a program to help her get to a better place,” an insider exclusively tells Us Weekly. “Everyone around her hopes this will be a wake-up call for her.”
The pop star, 44, was brought into police custody just after 9 p.m. local time on the evening of Wednesday, March 4, on suspicion of driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs near her home in Ventura County, California.
“This behavior has been going on for months but has been worse recently,” an insider told Us. “She has a lot of alone time at home which leads her to make bad choices like drinking. She’s at home now and [her son] Jayden is going to spend time with her to keep her company.” (Spears shares 20-year-old Sean Preston and 19-year-old Jayden James with her ex-husband Kevin Federline.)
The source added, “Britney’s very upset but doesn’t truly understand the implications yet.”
Spears was booked on Thursday, March 5, at 3:02 a.m. and released at 6:07 a.m. following a reported hospital visit to test her blood alcohol content. TMZ reported that the singer’s BAC level was .06, which is under the legal limit of .08.
Us Weekly later confirmed that Spears was pulled over while behind the wheel of her black BMW 430i on the 101 freeway at Westlake Boulevard in Thousand Oaks. Officers noticed that she was driving erratically at a high rate of speed.

After showing signs of impairment, Spears was submitted to a series of field sobriety tests. Chemical test results are still pending at this time.
Hours after her arrest made headlines, fans took notice that Spears’ Instagram account had been deactivated. “This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,” Spears’ rep told Us in a statement on Thursday. “Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in long-overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life.”
Spears’ DUI comes nearly five years after her conservatorship under father Jamie Spears ended in November 2021.
Just last month, she opened up about her estrangement from her family.
“As people, all we really want is to feel connected to each other and never feel alone,” she shared in an Instagram post on February 4. “For those of you in your family that have said to help you is to isolate you and make you feel unbelievably left out…they were wrong. We can forgive as people but u don’t ever forget. Yearning and longing for contact is always crucial !!!”
Spears added, “I’m incredibly lucky to even be alive with how my family treated me once in my life and now I’m scared of them.”
