Harry Styles ushered in his latest era with a pop-up concert in Manchester, England, celebrating the release of his new album, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally.
The Grammy winner, 32, returned to his home country for the one-night-only concert on Friday, March 6, which took place at Co-op Live, a 20,000-capacity arena that he invested in back in 2020.
Rocking a blue shirt with yellow trousers, Styles, 32, took the stage to perform an array of tracks from his new album, including lead single “Aperature,” as well as the live debut of songs like “American Girls” and “Season 2 Weight Loss.” He later returned for an encore, kicking it off with an acoustic version of “From the Dining Table” and finishing with his hit song “Sign of the Times.”
The concert coincided with the release date of Styles’ fourth studio album, which he announced in January after several years of flying under the radar. In an interview with Runner’s World published earlier this week, Styles explained that the new LP was inspired in part by the nightclubs of Berlin.
“I wanted to recreate [what] I had on the dance floor, being lost in instrumentation and the musicality,” he explained. “It was so immersive, like, this is how I want to feel when I’m on stage too. I don’t want it to feel like a sermon I’m delivering. I wanted it to feel like, ‘Oh, we’re in this music together.’ Like I’m in it with you.”
Ahead of Friday’s concert, Styles gave 100 tickets to the show to pupils at Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School and Sixth Form College, which he attended as a kid. Headteacher Nigel Bielby told the BBC that the “lucky” recipients were randomly selected from 600 applicants at the school.
“As Harry’s ex-headteacher, I am so pleased that he has kept a place in his heart for his roots and for the village and school where he grew and thrived,” Bielby added, noting he thinks his students will have a “fantastic time” at the concert. “Even given his incredible rise to fame and his immense talent and success, Harry understands what it means to be successful but also to maintain his sense of personal identity, integrity and credibility.”
Fans who aren’t lucky enough to attend the show in person on Friday will be able to watch it on Netflix Sunday, March 8. Harry Styles. One Night in Manchester. is the singer’s first-ever live concert to appear on a streaming service and will drop at 3 p.m. ET.
In a teaser for the concert special that debuted on Thursday, March 5, Styles — wearing a hat and sweater — rolled up his sleeves as he said, “Let me go to work.”
