A Court of Thorns and Roses author Sarah J. Maas gets tons of support from husband Josh Wasserman.
Maas has been with Wasserman since college, with the two tying the knot in May 2010. The couple has since expanded their family, welcoming two kids.
“My husband and I have been together, actually, since I was 18,” Maas said during a March 2026 appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast. “My husband was my first and only boyfriend. We are equals. We are partners in this.”
Maas explained that the female characters in her books have relationships with “respect and partnership” because that’s what she demands in her own life.
Wasserman is known as “Papa Maas” to fans of the Maas universe. He’s even taken that to heart, making that his social media name.
While Maas is known for writing some rather spicy scenes in her romantasy novels, she’s made it clear that Wasserman has nothing to do with it.
“My mother-in-law has grilled me and been like, ‘Are the sex scenes in this inspired by you and Josh?’” Maas said during the “Call Her Daddy” episode. “I’m like, “Yeah, when I’m, like, f***ing your son, I am writing down notes.’ Would you like me to describe everything for you, Linda?”

How Did Sarah J. Maas Meet Her Husband? The two actually met on Maas’ first day at Hamilton College when she was moving into her dorm. Wasserman was Maas’ RA.
“He saw me get out of my car with my parents, pulling up to the dorm with my car full of stuff,” Maas said on Today in January 2024. “He was the RA in my dorm building. I did not see him until we had our floor meeting that night. And he walked in, and I grabbed my poor roommate’s leg and just clawed up her thigh because I was like, ‘He’s so cute! That’s the one.’”

They welcomed son Taran in June 2018, and daughter Sloane in February 2022. Maas shared on “Call Her Daddy” how her son’s “traumatic” birth experience became the inspiration for one aspect of her books.
“I love my children. I am f***ing obsessed with my kids,” she said. “It took every bit of joy away where, instead of focusing on this beautiful baby growing inside of me, I was thinking about the food I was putting in my body.”
Maas made it clear during her March 2026 “Call Her Daddy” appearance that the ACOTAR series character Rhysand is not inspired by Wasserman.
“They have both have dark hair and that’s it. That’s it. That’s the only similarity,” she said. Maas noted that her mother-in-law “pretends” it’s her son.
