Kai Trump is facing social media backlash as followers feel the up-and-coming golf star bogeyed her latest YouTube video.
Trump, 18, posted a 19-minute video titled “I Brought My Secret Service to Erewhon” on Sunday, March 8, showing her shopping at the Los Angeles-based high-end, organic grocery store chain known to be one of the most expensive in the country.
She reportedly changed the title to “I Tried the World’s Most Expensive Grocery Store,” at one point, but as of Tuesday, March 10, the video appears under its original title.
The granddaughter of President Donald Trump ultimately walked out of Erewhon with a single bag of groceries totalling $233. Throughout the video, Kai considers a $165 store-branded sweatshirt and a $21 Hailey Bieber Smoothie.
“I’m like, I’m about to go bankrupt with stuff,” Kai says at one point. “I’m going to need to file for bankruptcy.”
Kai is currently a high school senior but has committed to play golf at the University of Miami next season. College sports outlet On3 estimates her name, image and likeness rights to be worth more than $1 million annually, based on her massive social media following.
Viewers in the comments and around social media have been quick to note that because Kai brought the Secret Service with her, this was a taxpayer-funded trip to the high-end grocery store.
“I love that my taxes are funding this instead of school lunches,” wrote one YouTube user.
Another added, “Zero self awareness. . . Marie Antoinette has been reincarnated.”
“Title might be the most tone deaf thing I’ve ever read,” said a third. “Like legit lmao.”
Democratic strategist Mike Nellis, a vocal opponent to President Trump, cited the video on X as an example of how he feels the “Trump family works to steal as much money from American taxpayers as possible.”
“That Kai Trump YouTube video is one of the most embarrassing self-owns I have ever seen,” he wrote in a separate post. “Her grandfather is crushing the economy and launching illegal wars, and she’s bragging about taking her Secret Service to an expensive grocery store. Just a modern-day ‘let them eat cake’ moment.”
Kai is the daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and his ex-wife, Vanessa Trump. She previously caused controversy in November 2025 when she received a sponsor exemption to participate in her first LPGA Tour event. Critics argued she was only invited because of her name and more than 4 million social media followers.
She finished the tournament in last place at 18-over par.
