Conservative provocateur Candace Owens is criticizing President Donald Trump for failing to keep his many campaign promises.
“Donald Trump has very clearly betrayed the American people,” Owens, 36, said in a Monday, March 9, YouTube video. “You need to accept that. I’ve had to accept that.”
Owens added that Trump, 79, “has betrayed every last single one of us.”
“The very people we had to fight to get Trump into office, he is now partnered with and insulting us and he thinks we’re too stupid to notice or something?” she continued. “He promised low gas prices. He promised no more forever wars, no more involvement in Middle East conflict. And we are now getting the exact opposite.”
Earlier this month, Trump confirmed that the United States and Israel launched multiple airstrikes on Iran.
“I do not make this statement lightly, the Iranian regime seeks to kill,” the president said at the time, addressing the American people directly. “The lives of courageous American heroes may be lost and we may have casualties. That often happens in war, but we’re doing this not for now, we’re doing this for the future and it is a noble mission.
The strikes have hit multiple Iranian targets, including a school for girls, per various outlets. According to Iranian officials, at least 150 people — the majority of them children — were killed. The strikes also killed the country’s leader, Ali Khamenei and multiple members of the Iranian government. Ali’s son, Mojtaba Khamenei, has been named the new Iranian Supreme Leader.
At the time of publication, seven U.S. service members have been killed in the conflict.
“That’s happening because he’s a coward,” Owens said of Trump and the ongoing war in Iran. “He is a coward for doing this to the American people and that’s going to be his legacy.”
Owens also claimed that she believes late friend Charlie Kirk was the “first casualty of the war in Iran.” Kirk was fatally shot at a university speaking event in Utah in September 2025. The Turning Point founder was 31.
“Trump has [spent more time] debunking whether he’s balding than he’s done [investigating who murdered Kirk], who was a good friend,” Owens claimed. “Trump has loyalty to no one but himself.”
Owens was once an avid supporter of Trump and his administration. She previously interviewed him at his home at Mar-a-Lago. However, she has recently been more critical of the president.
“I’ve been off that hardcore MAGA Trump train for a while,” she said. “Obviously, the thing that does let me down the most, that has been so shocking to me for him to survive the assassination attempt and what he is dedicating the rest of his time to is destroying America for Israel”.
While Owens continues to be wary of Trump’s actions in office, she does feel a sense of optimism that the state of politics could help bring people together.
“People feel completely duped. If there’s one thing I’m grateful for is that the left and the right are coming to this understanding: it’s not an either-or. We lose every single time,” she reflected. “They move us to constantly give more power to them … It’s how they argue to get to that thing: left versus right.”
