Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Dončić has ended his engagement with fiancée Anamaria Goltes — and the former couple are now battling for custody over their two daughters.
Dončić, 27, confirmed the split in a statement to ESPN on Tuesday, March 10.
“I love my daughters more than anything and I’ve been doing everything I can for them to be with me in the U.S. during the season, but that hasn’t been possible, so I recently made the tough decision to end my engagement,” Dončić said.
He continued, “Everything I do is for my daughters’ happiness and I will always fight to be with them and give them the best life I can.”
Dončić’s statement came the same day that TMZ reported Goltes, 28, filed a petition seeking child support and attorney fees from the six-time NBA All-Star. The couple share daughters Gabriela, 2, and Olivia, 3 months.
Dončić had “no idea” that Goltes was filing the petition, according to ESPN. The petition, obtained by Us Weekly, was filed in California, where Gabriela has spent just three months with her dad and Olivia has never visited.
ESPN also revealed that Dončić filed an interim injunction in a Slovenian court on February 26 to seek immediate contact with his daughters.
The Lakers guard came to Los Angeles following a shocking trade from the Dallas Mavericks in February 2025. He missed two games earlier this season to fly to Slovenia to be there for Olivia’s birth in December 2025. When he was ready to rejoin the team, he expressed the desire to bring Gabriela with him. ESPN claims an argument then ensued between Dončić and Goltes, prompting Goltes to call the police from the hospital after Dončić left “peacefully.”
A police report obtained by the outlet said that officers “did not detect any elements of a criminal offense or misdemeanor.”
Dončić has reportedly not seen his daughters since. When he returned to the Lakers, he opened up about the trip to Slovenia.
“I don’t even know how to describe it,” he told reporters at the time. “It was a lot. I was there for the birth of my daughter, so that means everything to me. But it was definitely a roller-coaster.”
Dončić and Goltes met in 2010 when they were 12 years old and began dating in 2016. The NBA star proposed in July 2023, and the two announced the news in a joint Instagram post. The post has since been deleted.
The pair have each scrubbed images of the other from their Instagram feeds.
