Dwight Howard’s estranged wife, Amber Howard, is accusing the NBA player of locking her out of their home.
In a 911 call obtained by TMZ on Thursday, March 12, Amber (who also goes by Amy Luciani) tells an operator that she is unable to get inside her house because the gate code has allegedly been changed.
“Whenever he gets upset, he locks me out of our estate. We live in a 35,000-square-foot big home,” she claims in the call. “It’s Dwight Howard from the Lakers. Any time he gets upset with me, I come home, the gate’s locked. He just did it again.”
According to Amber, she tried to get back into the property’s gate, but Dwight allegedly changed the gate code again.
In her call to 911, Amber claims the former Los Angeles Lakers player has been told by police that he can’t do the alleged act.
“This is your wife. I’ve been here for 15 months. We’ve been married for 12,” she says in the call. “They warned him, ‘Stop doing this.’ He did it again. I’m locked out, and I had to walk all the way through the windows, break in the side gate.”

Amber continued, “I’m quite shocked the neighbors haven’t called the police on me yet. It’s raining. I’m embarrassed. I was not going to call, but I’m sick of it. I cannot keep being made to sleep in my car when my husband gets mad because he’s a multi-millionaire and an NBA star. It’s wrong. I want somebody to come out here.”
Us Weekly has reached out to Dwight and Amber’s attorneys for comment.
According to TMZ, the 911 call to the Gwinnett County Police took place on Friday, March 6.
Days later, Us confirmed that Dwight filed for divorce from Amber on Monday, March 9.
In court documents obtained by Us, the former Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test contestant claimed that his marriage to Amber is “irretrievably broken.” The docs noted that there is “no hope of reconciliation,” and Dwight asked for exclusive access to his home.
The pair — who got married in January 2025 — do not share any children together.
Dwight previously filed for divorce in June 2025, but it was later dismissed. Amber, meanwhile, filed for divorce in July 2025, but her petition was also dismissed.
Personal news aside, Dwight also made headlines this week when he officially announced his retirement from professional basketball.
In a statement released via Instagram, the NBA player said he was “taking off the cape” to “pour into my family and give back to communities worldwide.”
“I know some of you might think I thought he already ‘retired’ but I didn’t… the game retired me!” he wrote on Thursday. “ I still had more left to give ! Yeah I did play professionally for 20 years and Im grateful to be able to say that but I can’t lie seeing these other players still going at it at age 40 inspired me to want to keep trying but now I believe my duty will be to pass it down to the next generation. Thank you to all my fans and supporters throughout this journey. I love and appreciate yall dearly.”
