The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Mikayla Matthew and husband Jace Terry are figuring out next steps amid their separation.
Warning: This post contains spoilers for The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives season 4.
“I think it’s tricky in this environment, because I also need a lot of support from him going through all of it,” Mikayla, 25, exclusively told Us Weekly ahead of the season 4 premiere, which aired on Thursday, March 12. “And so it’s kind of one of those things that we’re still navigating, and it still has its ups and still has its downs.”
During season 3, fans saw Mikayla and Jace open up about intimacy issues they were experiencing in their marriage — something the pair shared hadn’t been resolved in season 4. Mikayla, who was newly postpartum while filming, was also navigating her chronic illness. The twosome ultimately agreed to separate, with Mikayla seen packing up her belongings from their home. (Mikayla and Jace share four children.)
“Unfortunately for me, it’s like I’m stuck in this place where my health is out of my control,” Mikayla explained to Us. “I feel like I can’t get anything else in my life under control once I have that under control. So it’s kind of just with time and patience. I think it’s something we’re still working through, and we’re still going to be working through for a while.”
When asked whether she and Jace are currently living together, Mikayla played coy with her response.

“I mean, we’re filming now, obviously, so I can’t give too much away,” Mikayla told Us. “I’m having to figure out, is it my house that’s making me sick? Is it Utah that’s making me sick? And so I feel like there’s a lot of that frustration that’s weighing on me right now, like, a lot of anxiety and stress that way of, ‘OK, do I have to remove myself from my home, from my marriage, from the state? Like, what do I have to do to heal myself?’ I think that’s still something that I’m still very much in the thick of.”
Mikayla shared that she thinks “trauma” has played a “huge role” in her health, noting that she hasn’t been “listening” to her body for “so long” — which is why she thinks it “got this severe.”
“I’ve been doing a lot of allergy testing, and the guy I went to said that one of their spouses was allergic to the other person semen and so I wanted to take it, maybe get it tested,” she said. “I don’t know, I’m trying everything. Like, I’m not even kidding. I want to just make a show of me just doing the most unhinged things, because I truly would do anything to fix my health, and I’ve done some weird s*** that I’m like, ‘This is weird. This should be documented.'”
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is streaming now.
