The Bella Twins have their sights set on winning the WWE Tag Team Championships at next month’s WrestleMania 42.
“Being a Hall of Famer is such an amazing achievement, but because we started in this business together and built such an empire, it’s the last thing,” Nikki, 42, exclusively told Us Weekly exclusively while promoting WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas on April 18 and 19.
Nikki told Us that there’s a video going around that they filmed “forever ago” saying that their “dream” is to “one day to have WWE Tag Team Championships” — and the sentiment still rings true.
While details about the Women’s Tag Team Championship Match at WrestleMania have yet to be announced, Nikki explained that it would offer a sense of “closure” and would be the “cherry on top” of the twins’ WWE career if they could secure that win.
“Nikki and I, we have been — and I say this proudly — one of the longest original tag teams,” Brie, also 42, added. “Since the womb, we’ve been one of the greatest tag teams. When you look at the history of the women’s division of tag teams, Nikki and I — The Bella Twins — always stand out. We never got to go for those championships.”
Nikki and Brie kicked off their WWE career in 2007. The duo announced in 2019 that they had retired from in-ring competition. They returned to the ring in 2022 for the Royal Rumble that year. The following year, the sisters announced on their podcast that they had no plans to renew their WWE contracts.
Nikki, however, surprised fans with a return to the ring in 2025 — which inspired Brie to enter the 2026 Royal Rumble in January.
“She’s been kicking butt, but I didn’t know if I was ready yet. I think Nikki gave me the itch, and my kids also swore that I was never a wrestler,” Brie explained. “At 42 I want to prove it to myself. I want to challenge myself. I want to show my kids what Mommy can do.”
Brie shares daughter Birdie, born in May 2017, and son Buddy, born in August 2020, with husband Bryan Danielson. Nikki is the mom to Matteo, born in July 2020, with ex-husband Artem Chigvintsev.
“I also want to show all the women out there that [when] we become moms, we lose ourselves at times. But you can always come back and find yourself,” Brie continued. “Is it going to be challenging? Yes. We’ve already been training, it’s very challenging. But it’s been good to feel uncomfortable and get ready for it. It’s been a great time.”
The duo have been training with “tough coach” Danielson, 44, a former WWE champion.
“There’s definitely times where I’m like, ‘What am I doing?’ It’s been wild,” Brie continued. “But at the same time, it feels really empowering.”
