One Baltimore Ravens fan just delivered the most perfectly timed internet disaster of the year, and 11.5 million people watched it unfold in real time.
On March 4, an X user and Ravens fan posting under the handle @Hamilton_DPOY made the kind of promise fans toss around on social media every day.
He would “completely shave my head” if Baltimore managed to land Las Vegas Raiders star defensive end Maxx Crosby in a trade.
Standard internet bravado. The kind of hyperbolic bet that’s fun because it feels unlikely enough to never actually come due. The Raiders had been in talks with multiple teams as they searched for a trade partner for Crosby, and plenty of franchises were circling.
The post sat on the timeline. The internet took note.
Two days later, on March 6, the Raiders agreed to trade Crosby to the Ravens in exchange for two first-round draft picks. Suddenly that “safe” bet didn’t look so safe anymore.
The trade was only an agreement, though. It wouldn’t become official until the new league year began on March 11. There was a window of several days where the deal existed in limbo.
But a bet is a bet. The timeline was watching.
Baltimore Ravens Fan Shaves Head for Maxx CrosbyOn March 10, @Hamilton_DPOY returned to X with the photo that would launch him into viral infamy. Completely bald. Scalp gleaming.
“Welcome to Baltimore @CrosbyMaxx,” he wrote.
The post racked up more than 11.5 million views. That number is real. Over eleven million people watched a fan’s head-shaving reveal for a trade that, at that exact moment, still technically hadn’t been finalized.
He honored the pledge. He was a man of his word. The main character arc appeared complete.
But then things spiraled.
A mere 30 minutes after the bald photo went up, the Raiders posted an announcement on social media that no one — least of all a freshly shaved Ravens fan — saw coming.
“The Baltimore Ravens have backed out of our trade agreement for Maxx Crosby,” the team wrote in a statement on X. “We will have no further comment at this time.”
Thirty minutes. That’s the gap between a man triumphantly showing off his shaved head and discovering the entire reason for the shave had just disintegrated.
The fan’s response was instant.
“ARE YOU KIDDING ME?” he wrote on X after the news broke.
ESPN confirmed that the Ravens’ decision came down to medical concerns that arose during a physical. The blockbuster deal — two first-round picks and all — was dead.
The Ravens ended up signing free agent Trey Hendrickson on March 11. Crosby, meanwhile, re-committed to Las Vegas.
“Everything Happens For A Reason. Believe Nothing You Hear & Half Of What You See. Im A Raider. I’m Back,” he wrote in a March 11 Instagram post.
The fan’s favorite team still ended up with one of the best defensive ends in the league in Hendrickson. Cold comfort while staring at a bald reflection in the mirror, but comfort nonetheless.
The hair will grow back. The screenshots are forever.
