A man in California has been sentenced after he was found guilty of killing his girlfriend in front of their two young children.
Romier Taguiam Narag was found guilty in February 2026 of first-degree murder with a firearm and child endangerment in connection with the 2023 shooting death, the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.
Narag, 30, was sentenced to serve 64 years to life in prison during a hearing that was held on March 5. “The Defendant has orphaned his own children and the devastation will last their entire lives,” the statement read.
Prosecutors said in court that Narag, 30, shot girlfriend Frances Lucero twice in the back after they got into a heated argument outside of their home in Redwood City, California, on March 6, 2023, according to KRON 4.
Lucero reportedly attempted to run away from Narag at the time of the shooting, though Narag’s bullets managed to hit the fleeing mom. The incident took place in front of the couple’s two children, who were 3 and 4 years old at the time.
Narag was then arrested at the crime scene by local police.
During the trial, Narag’s attorney said that he killed Lucero after she told him that she no longer wanted to be with him, according to KRON 4.
Narag expressed remorse for the murder and said he hated himself for killing Lucero at the sentencing hearing, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Meanwhile, Lucero’s family said that they believed their daughter will never get the justice she deserved since she is gone forever. However, they did say that they were happy and relieved that this chapter of their life was finally closed.
Following Lucero’s death, her family set up a GoFundMe campaign in which she was remembered as a “beautiful mother, daughter, sister, and friend who touched countless lives of those around her.”
“Frances dedicated her life to her children and always spread the love she had to share. She was the most genuine, thoughtful, loyal and ambitious woman we’ve all been blessed to know,” the post read. “Frances was that friend that would help you celebrate good times and provide nothing but support during the bad times.”
The family also noted that they were not prepared financially for her burial due to the unexpected nature of her death. “We are devastated by Frances’ unexpected loss and were not prepared for the high cost of a funeral service. We want to give Frances the memorial she truly deserves, honor her memory and say our last goodbyes,” the wrote.
“We are currently asking for a donation of 30k to help cover the cost of Frances’ memorial services as well as any extra assistance we can give to help her family survive this hard time,” the family added.
The family ultimately ended up making more than their goal and earned $44,862 through the fundraiser.
Not many details about Narag and Lucero’s relationship have been shared, including how long they were together at the time of her death.
