Cher’s son Chaz Bono is a married man.
Chaz, 57, who Cher, 79, shared with her late husband Sonny Bono, tied the knot with Shara Blue Mathes during an intimate ceremony at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 8.
While speaking with People in an article published on Friday, March 13, Chaz gushed that Mathes is his “best friend.”
“I first met Shara more than 40 years ago when we were just teenagers,” he shared. “I think it’s safe to say that not many grooms ultimately end up marrying the very first girl they ever kissed so many years later.”
He continued, “She makes me feel complete knowing she will always be there beside me as a partner, my best friend, and the love of my life.”
Chaz added that whatever life brings them, he knows they are “safer and stronger together,” noting, “We are home.”
For their nuptials, Chaz kept it classy in a black-and-white tuxedo, which he elevated with a lily boutonnière. Mathes, for her part, looked timeless in a white dress featuring a fitted lace top with a V-neck, long sleeves and an A-line skirt. She teamed her look with a delicate veil.
Her makeup included hydrated skin, bronzed and blushed cheeks, filled-in eyebrows, black eyeliner, long lashes and pink lips. She wore her brunette hair down and parted down the middle and styled in Old Hollywood curls.
Chaz and Mathes met as teenagers at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute. They later reconnected in 2017 and made their relationship official.
Cher and Sonny, meanwhile, met in 1962 when she was just 16 years old. Sonny, who was 27 at the time, worked as a music producer. Two years later, the duo had an unofficial wedding in Tijuana, Mexico.
In 1969, Cher gave birth to Chaz and legally tied the knot with Sonny. Five years later, in 1974, the couple separated, finalizing their divorce in 1975.
Sonny died at age 62 following a ski accident in California. In Cher’s 2024 memoir, she claimed that Sonny was a controlling husband, which contributed to their split. She also noted that they remained friends.
Cher later married Gregg Allman in 1975 before calling it quits in 1979. She and Allman, who died at age 69 in 2017, welcomed Elijah Blue, now 49, in 1976. Elijah, for his part, is married to Marieangela King.
