Cynthia Bailey feels like the best version of herself after losing 36 pounds with a GLP-1.
“It’s been a year and I was 206 pounds, naked, without the wig on, no lashes on, cause I was peeling off everything to see if it was 206 pounds … and it was,” the Real Housewives of Atlanta alum, 59, said during the Monday, March 16, episode of her and Crystal Kung Minkoff’s “Humblebrag” podcast. “No leg hair, literally just … in my rawest state.”
Bailey added that because of her height, she can “carry” excess weight “pretty well,” but there were times it still “showed up” in unwanted places.
“Now I’m down to 170. My goal was 160, which I think is good,” she said. “I think maybe eight more pounds and I’m good. And that’s just to have a little wiggle room … I can fit in my stuff, most of my stuff.”
In addition to being pleased with her appearance, Bailey confessed there have been other health benefits from slimming down, including relief in her knees and improved “stamina” in the bedroom.
Bailey explained that the weight loss process took “over a year” and she started off with Weight Watchers before utilizing a GLP-1. (A GLP-1 is a medication like Ozempic that helps lower blood sugar levels and promote weight loss. They were initially created for those with diabetes before becoming a mainstream method for losing weight.)
“Just to be completely transparent, I started with the GLP-1 and I’m on Wegovy, and I’ve been doing that consistently, probably for about three months now,” she said. “I went up to the highest dosage they’ll let me have, which is, like, 2.5 … but that’s good for me. I never really get nauseous unless I eat too much … but I would feel like that even if I wasn’t on the shot.”
Bailey shared that she was “underdosing” the GLP-1 before switching to her current level. She “really started to see a difference” once she got on the higher dose.
The reality star explained her decision to use the GLP-1 because she was having difficulty losing more weight after having a strong start on her diet program.
“As soon as I started Weight Watchers, I lost 15 pounds in a month. It was amazing. Then it started to slow down,” she said. “But anyway, I’m really happy. I feel really good. I did a bunch of [red] carpets this week and I feel confident again.”
Bailey’s weight loss isn’t just thanks to the GLP-1, as she also made some changes to her lifestyle.
“I actually do feel like this is maintainable for me now that I understand how to … you know, if I roll up to Taco Bell every now and then, I can do that because … it was a lifestyle change for me,” she said. “I honestly try to eat something every three hours and I pretty much make small plates.”
Bailey noted that her diet now prioritizes eating smaller portions per sitting and pacing out her meals to avoid being overly full.
