Barbara Evans is addressing a court’s decision to deny her emergency custody over her daughter Jenelle Evans’ 16-year-old son, Jace.
“It doesn’t matter that it was denied, because I’m going to court on March 23rd for a temporary custody hearing,” Barbara told TMZ on Monday, March 16. “The evidence will be presented then.”
Barbara went on to claim that Jace’s father, Andrew Lewis, will also be presenting evidence. Us Weekly reached out to Jenelle for comment.
Barbara made headlines when she filed two motions on Wednesday, March 11 — one for emergency child custody and one to modify child custody, according to court documents obtained by The Ashley.
Us learned that the next court date is a temporary court hearing — not a hearing for emergency custody, and that Barbara appeared for the emergency custody hearing without Jenelle’s lawyer present and without notifying Jenelle or her legal team. The motion, therefore, was ultimately denied. (Us reached out to Barbara’s legal team for comment at the time.)
“My mom was denied her recent request for emergency custody,” Jenelle exclusively told Us on Sunday, March 15. “I still have sole and physical custody of Jace.”
TMZ first reported earlier this month that Jace had been placed in a mental health facility after allegedly pulling a gun on Barbara in February. The outlet claimed that the incident occurred when Jace was allegedly under the influence of drugs and alcohol. (Jenelle resides in Las Vegas with her two younger children, while Jace has been living with Barbara in North Carolina.)
“At this time, we respectfully ask for privacy for the family and Jenelle Evans,” a rep for Jenelle told Page Six at the time. “This is a personal matter, and space and understanding are appreciated as they focus on their well-being and time together. Thank you for respecting their privacy during this time.”
At the time, Jenelle’s sister, Ashleigh, denied the alleged incident occurred.
“My nephew did not pull a firearm out on his grandmother or himself,” she wrote via X. “That is a lie. None of that [is] true… who[ever] keeps fabricating these lies is a sick person. The police never found a gun in my mother’s house. That is a straight up lie. [It’s] most likely my sister selling the story because she’s angry. She’s losing control.”
Jenelle, for her part, called Barbara and her sister “the enemy” while responding to the alleged incident.
“Whoever thought the enemy is my own mother, sad AF,” she wrote at the time. “And to think the empathy I had for her all these months because of her health.”
She continued of Ashleigh, “Another evil one that doesn’t have custody of her son. Take what she says with a grain of salt. Kthx, bye.”
