Melissa Rivers gives credit where she thinks it’s due.
The red carpet fashion expert, 58, praised Kylie Jenner for stepping back during Timothée Chalamet’s big night at the 2026 Oscars on Sunday, March 15, exclusively telling Us Weekly that Jenner, 28, did the “right thing” by not hitting the red carpet alongside her boyfriend.
“I love that,” Rivers told Us, “because the carpet is his moment.” The Marty Supreme star, who posed for cameras solo outside of the star-studded event held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, was nominated for Best Actor at the 98th annual Academy Awards.
Jenner joined him inside the venue, wearing a Jessica Rabbit-inspired dress. The red-hot Schiaparelli gown — which happens to be a 2023 look she reprised in a different color — featured a keyhole cutout on the chest.
“She knows she will pull focus, and that is the absolute right thing to do,” added the Fashion Police alum, also known for being the daughter of the late Joan Rivers.
“I really like that,” she said of Jenner, noting the beauty mogul showed a level of awareness “because she knows her power” and that “it’ll become all about her.”

“And it’s not, walking the carpet as an Oscar nominee is his moment,” Rivers added.
Jenner later posed for photos with Chalamet, 30, on the Vanity Fair Oscar Party red carpet after changing into a shimmering Alexander McQueen number that featured a feathered train. Chalamet, for his part, donned a crisp white Chrome Hearts suit for the afterparty.
“The Kardashian-Jenners know what looks good on them, and they don’t stray from the formula,” Melissa told Us about their gowns for the night.
“That was a Kylie dress that also could have been a Kim [Kardashian] dress,” Melissa pointed out, noting it was a look that would have been flattering on any of the reality star siblings. “And then what Kim wore to Vanity Fair could have also been a Kylie dress or a Khloé [Kardashian] dress,” she continued.
Kim, 45, switched up her signature brown-eyed glam by donning blue contacts at the annual VF Oscars party, for which she wore a glittering Gucci dress and 8-inch Pleaser platform heels.
