An intruder has been arrested after he walked into a family’s home in Oregon, muttered “Honey, I’m here,” and then attacked a woman as she held her 10-month-old baby. The incident took place while the woman’s husband was outside working on the yard.
Judson Defir has been accused of attacking the woman on Sunday, March 15, at her home in Portland’s South Tabor neighborhood.
The arrest affidavit viewed by Law & Crime stated that the “male grabbed [the mother] while she was holding the baby and pulled her out of the room, across the hallway and into the guest bedroom.”
“Once in the bedroom, the male forced [the mother] onto the bed by her hips,” the affidavit said, adding that Defir, 43, allegedly “pressed down on her back and hips” as he attempted to sexually assault her.
“[The mother] was face-down on the bed and held the baby in her arms,” the affidavit continued. “The pressure from the male was pressing on her back and causing her to press on the baby.”
The woman asked Defir to let her put her child in the crib in another room to avoid injuring the baby, and Defir reportedly obliged.
Police said that she then went to the other room with her 3-year-old and barricaded the door with a bookshelf “in hopes of keeping the male out of the bedroom.”
Defir “attempted to force his way into the room” and the woman “walked onto the balcony and started yelling for help, alerting her husband,” per the affidavit.
The woman later told police her husband was “doing yard work” while she was upstairs with her children.
She said she heard Defir walk in through the front door and heard footsteps coming up the stairs — though believed it was her husband.
“She heard a male voice say, ‘Honey, I’m here,'” the affidavit said. “She realized it was not her husband’s voice and then saw an unknown male [Defir] at the threshold of the bedroom door.”
The mother told police that Defir allegedly had “messy hair, a messy beard [and] messed up teeth.” She also said he was wearing a black hoodie and dark colored pants during the incident, while she said that “he smelled dirty, like unwashed body odor.”
After she was able to get her husband’s attention, he and other people from a nearby church ran over to help. However, Defir had already fled the residence.
Officers canvassed the scene in hopes of finding Defir, and he was eventually located in the area, being followed by about 15 people who were pointing at him and shouting.
He was then taken into custody and allegedly told a female officer, “Wanna f**k? You’re hot.”
On the same day of the home invasion, Defir also allegedly attacked at least three other women.
“Responding officers determined that minutes before this attack [on the mother], the suspect entered a nearby church where he touched a woman inappropriately before fleeing,” a police press release said. “In addition to these two incidents, the male is suspected of grabbing two other women who were walking in the neighborhood.”
While speaking to police, Defir said he “smoked meth that morning and then went to church and had pancakes.” Following church, he said he entered a nearby house where he found a woman inside with two kids.
“Defir said the woman screamed and that as he tried to get past the woman, she dropped one of the babies,” the affidavit said. “He said that he accidentally bumped into the woman and almost considered jumping from the second floor to get out of there.”
Defir also allegedly told police that people started randomly following him when he left the woman’s home.
He was arraigned on Monday, March 16, on charges of first-degree attempted rape, kidnapping and burglary. Defir has also been charged with a probation violation related to an indecent exposure case.
It is not currently clear if he has entered a plea or retained legal representation.
