If you’re a Prime Video subscriber, you don’t have to wait to watch some fantastic movies that have won Academy Awards.
There’s already a brand-new batch of Oscar winners, some of which will eventually be on Prime Video.
Watch With Us has put together a roundup of three past Oscar-winning movie masterpieces to watch on Prime Video right now.
Our selections include a now legendary musical, a quirky crime comedy and a World War II drama.
‘La La Land’ (2016)La La Land came as close to winning Best Picture as possible due to the infamous on-stage mix-up at the Oscars in 2017. But it still won Best Director for Damien Chazelle, Best Actress for Emma Stone and four other Academy Awards. It’s also one of the most enduring musicals of the 21st century.
Stone plays Amelia “Mia” Dolan, a struggling actress who is having a hard time holding on to her dreams. By chance, Mia meets Sebastian “Seb” Wilder (Ryan Gosling), a musician with big dreams of his own. When they’re together, Mia and Seb’s lives become like a 1950s rom-com musical. But when reality catches up with these lovebirds, the enormous pressure they’ve put on themselves to succeed may be the thing that drives them apart for good.

‘Fargo’ (1996)Fargo may have come up short in the Best Picture and Best Director categories, but directors and cowriters Joel and Ethan Coen won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. Frances McDormand also won the first of her three Academy Awards for Best Actress for her unforgettable turn as Marge Gunderson, the police chief of a small town called Brainerd, who just happens to be several months pregnant.
Marge’s life is largely peaceful, but a kidnapping plot by local car dealer Jerry Lundegaard (William H. Macy) brings out some unexpected violence and murder. Jerry just wanted to use his wife, Jean (Kristin Rudrüd), to extort money from his wealthy father-in-law, Wade Gustafson (Harve Presnell). His mistake was hiring two kidnappers, Gaear Grimsrud (Peter Stormare) and Carl Showalter (Steve Buscemi), who tend to leave dead bodies in their wake.

‘The Pianist’ (2002)The Pianist marked the pinnacle of Roman Polanski‘s career when he won Best Director, but it was only the first of two Oscars for Best Actor for Adrien Brody. Ronald Harwood also won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for bringing the account of pianist Władysław Szpilman (Brody) to life in such vivid fashion. The film chronicles Szpilman’s life before and during World War II as he and his family face the horrors of the Nazi regime as it invades Poland.
No matter where Szpilman and his family run, they can’t escape the shadow of the occupation. Even Szpilman’s survival is in question when he’s separated from the ones he loves and forced to fend for himself in the ruins of war. Szpilman isn’t really cut out to be a fighter, but his talent as a musician may be the only thing that can save him before the war comes to an end.
