The Atlanta Falcons revealed its upcoming NFL schedule — with a subtle dig at former league coach Bill Belichick’s now-viral CBS interview.
The Georgia-based football team made a Mario Kart-themed video to reveal which other teams they would be playing in the fall, sharing it via social media on Wednesday, May 14. While teasing the Falcons’ upcoming matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, an animated car drives past renderings of Belichick, 73, and girlfriend Jordon Hudson sitting on beach chairs by a lake. They sat next to a sign that read, “We’re Not Talking About This.”
The former New England Patriots coach has been dating Hudson, 24, since 2021 after they met on an airplane. Belichick was asked about the origins of their romance during an April appearance on CBS Mornings.
Hudson, who was sitting off-camera, subsequently interjected and said, “We’re not talking about that.”
Both Belichick and Hudson have since shut down the backlash — Hudson was accused of controlling the narrative — by claiming that CBS was not supposed to ask about the Super Bowl champ’s love life.
“I agreed to speak with CBS Sunday Morning to promote my new book, The Art of Winning – Lessons from My Life in Football,” Belichick said in a statement last month. “Prior to this interview, I clearly communicated with my publicist at Simon & Schuster that any promotional interviews I participated in would agree to focus solely on the contents of the book. Unfortunately, that expectation was not honored during the interview. I was surprised when unrelated topics were introduced, and I repeatedly expressed to the reporter, Tony Dokoupil, and the producers that I preferred to keep the conversation centered on the book.”
According to Belichick, the interview soon veered away from the approved topics, which is when Hudson jumped in to “help refocus the discussion.”
“She was not deflecting any specific question or topic but simply doing her job to ensure the interview stayed on track,” he stated. “Some of the clips make it appear as though we were avoiding the question of how we met, but we have been open about the fact that Jordon and I met on a flight to Palm Beach in 2021. Instead, it presents selectively edited clips and stills from just a few minutes of the interview to suggest a false narrative — that Jordon was attempting to control the conversation — which is simply not true.”
CBS, meanwhile, denied claims that there were “preconditions or limitations” going into the sit-down. “When we agreed to speak with Mr. Belichick, it was for a wide-ranging interview,” a spokesperson for CBS News said in April. “There were no preconditions or limitations to this conversation. This was confirmed repeatedly with his publisher before the interview took place and after it was completed.”
