Tom Cruise can’t help but praise Ana de Armas’ latest projects amid ongoing dating speculation.
While speaking with reporters at the Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning premiere on Thursday, May 15, Cruise, 62, offered a brief review of de Area’s starring turn in From the World of John Wick: Ballerina.
“I saw the movie, which kicks ass,” Cruise said via social media footage. “Oh, man, it’s right in that tone. It’s right in that big world, and you’re gonna love it.”
The Cuban actress, 37, stars in the latest John Wick movie, which premieres in early June, alongside John Wick himself — actor Keanu Reeves.
“The first day we got on the mat and started rehearsing the choreo, I was just looking at him,” de Armas recalled to BroBible of training with Reeves, 60, in an interview published earlier this month. “I was like, ‘I hope I can just do it as best as I can — maybe as good as he does it.’”
De Armas also spoke to Good Morning America about her new action film, where she briefly offered insight into her connection to Cruise.
“It’s so much fun, and we’re definitely working on a lot of things,” she said on Thursday. “Not just one, but a few projects with Doug Liman and Christopher McQuarrie and, of course, Tom. I’m so excited.”
Cruise is currently set to star in Liman’s now-untitled SpaceX movie that the duo are cowriting with McQuarrie, 56. De Armas, meanwhile, is not officially attached to the project but has been seen out with Cruise on multiple occasions. A source recently told Us Weekly that de Armas and Cruise had already gone on a few dates.
“It’s low-key, still new and in the early stages,” the insider exclusively told Us. “Their romance is definitely on the down low.”
According to the source, de Armas and Cruise met through mutual friends, such as Penelope Cruz.
“Penelope put in a good word for her both personally and professionally,” the source added.
Cruise previously dated Cruz, now 51, for three years after meeting on the set of 2001’s Vanilla Sky. The insider added to Us that the pair remained friendly after their 2004 breakup. Cruz, who is now married to Javier Bardem, later starred with de Armas in 2019’s Wasp Network.
The source further noted to Us that de Armas initially met with Cruise about a work project earlier this year before any romance developed.
“They’ve gone out on some dates and it’s very low-key,” the insider continued. “It’s in the early stages, and he’s been courting her. … She isn’t looking for anything to move too fast, she’s taking it really slow.”
