Tom Cruise has another near-impossible mission on his hands.
The Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning star, 62, revealed his grand ambitions to continue making movies well past the age of 100.
During the New York City premiere of the latest Mission: Impossible movie on Sunday, May 18, Cruise was reminded of a quote he gave a couple of years ago that he wants to continue making movies into his 80s.
Now, he’s pushing that goalpost even further.
“Maybe, movies, I’m actually going to make them into my 100s,” Cruise shared with The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet. “I will never stop. I will never stop doing action. I will never stop doing drama, comedy films. I’m excited.”
Cruise’s latest film marks the eighth and seemingly final installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise. The actor has played secret agent Ethan Hunt in the action franchise for almost three decades. (The first Mission: Impossible hit theaters in 1996.)
While there have been hints (the title, for one) that Final Reckoning could be the last Mission: Impossible film ever, Cruise has avoided confirming or denying whether the franchise is coming to an end.
“You gotta see the movie,” he told Empire in an interview published in February. “It’s a hard thing for me to discuss at the moment because it really is something that you have to experience.”
Cruise described Final Reckoning as “an epic, emotional journey of the entire franchise.”
Director Christopher McQuarrie also played coy in the interview, teasing the future of Cruise’s Ethan Hunt character, a spy who specializes in completing (as the title suggests) ostensibly impossible missions.
“It is, I hope, the satisfying conclusion to a 30-year story arc,” McQuarrie, 56, told the outlet. “I’m pretty confident that people are going to feel that the title was appropriate.”
Cruise made headlines last week after he praised Ana de Armas’ latest blockbuster, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, amid ongoing speculation that the two are dating.
“I saw the movie, which kicks ass,” Cruise said, per footage shared via social media. “Oh, man, it’s right in that tone. It’s right in that big world, and you’re gonna love it.”
A source recently told Us Weekly that de Armas, 37, and Cruise had gone on a few dates amid rumors of a romance.
“It’s low-key, still new and in the early stages,” the insider exclusively told Us. “Their romance is definitely on the down-low.”
According to the source, de Armas and Cruise met through mutual friends, including Penélope Cruz.
“Penélope put in a good word for her both personally and professionally,” the source added.
