Elon Musk’s alleged drug consumption went beyond occasional use, according to a new report.
According to The New York Times, who spoke to multiple sources, the tech billionaire, 53, allegedly told people he was taking so much ketamine that it was affecting his bladder.
Ketamine is an anesthetic medication that promotes sleep before and during surgery. The Cleveland Clinic lists liver injury as a possible side effect of the medication. The Food and Drug Administration has formally approved the use of ketamine only as an anesthetic in medical procedures.
Musk also allegedly took Ecstasy and psychedelic mushrooms. Per the Times, he allegedly traveled with a daily medication box that held about 20 pills, including ones with the markings of the stimulant Adderall.
Us Weekly has reached out to Musk’s lawyer and rep for comment on the Times’ report.
It is unclear when Musk was allegedly taking the drugs and whether it coincided with his time working under President Donald Trump after he was enlisted to cut waste in the federal government.
Back in March 2024, Musk was adamant that he does not abuse drugs and spoke about his prescription for ketamine for a “negative chemical state.”

“If you’ve used too much ketamine, you can’t really get work done, and I have a lot of work,” he told journalist Don Lemon. He added that 16-hour workdays were “normal” for him and that he rarely took weekends off to manage his multiple companies.
The Times’ latest report comes after Musk’s experience as a special government employee officially concluded on Wednesday, May 28.
“As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending,” Musk wrote via X on Wednesday. “The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government.”
In addition to his work in the White House, Musk has also been faced with family drama as he navigates raising children from multiple women.
Last month, The Wall Street Journal reported that Musk offered conservative influencer Ashley St. Clair a one-off $15 million payment, as well as $100,000 a month, to keep their baby a secret. (Us reached out to Musk’s team at the time.)
In February, St. Clair, 26, also claimed via X that she had welcomed Musk’s son — the Tesla founder’s 13th known child — five months earlier but had kept the birth a secret to “protect our child’s privacy and safety.”
Musk has not publicly acknowledged the claims, but wrote via X that “TMZ >> WSJ”. He has also questioned via social media whether the child is his.
