The mystery surrounding Masha’s connection to David takes a surprising turn on the latest episode of Nine Perfect Strangers.

During the Wednesday, June 4, episode of the Hulu series, Masha (Nicole Kidman) peels back another layer about her and David’s (Mark Strong) romance — and drops a bombshell about their shared past.
At the end of the episode, Masha gets a visit from her late daughter, Tatiana (Emílie Páclová), while under the influence of psychedelics. Tatiana says, “I thought you didn’t want to see me anymore,” however, Masha insists, “I always want to see you. Always.”
Masha then tells her daughter that “tonight is a very special night,” revealing, “Tonight is the night you’re going to meet your father.”
While Masha doesn’t explicitly say that David is Tatiana’s father in that moment, viewers hear Masha’s words as David is shown walking to his room for the evening alone, alluding to the father-daughter connection.
One episode prior, Masha and David hinted at the seriousness of their past romance after an intense cold plunge therapy. “Nice necklace by the way,” David told her during the May 28 episode, referring to a blue diamond necklace she began wearing when he arrived at Zauberwald.
Masha replied, “Thank you, it was given to me by an old friend,” talking about their time together. David teased a friend “who you just tried to kill.” Masha corrected him, saying, “Who I saved. And who I could save more if he would let me.”
During this week’s episode, Masha plays coy about her connection with David, but her longtime friend Helena (Lena Olin), who owns the retreat, knows it’s a sorted one.
“This is a major regression bringing him here,” Helena tells Masha as she watches David’s tapes on repeat. “We spent years coming to terms with your relationship with this man. Eradicating the shadow he cast over your life. Helping you move on from the past.”
Masha quips, “The only person who gets to move on is him,” claiming she’s not planning his treatment as “a punishment,” but rather “a reckoning.”
In addition to diving deeper into Masha and David’s relationship, Wednesday’s episode reveals how Tina (King Princess) and Wolfie (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) met.
The pair cross paths while Tina is backstage before one of her piano performances and Wolfie tries to ease her anxiety, saying, “It’s just dust, bunny,” to which Tina replies, “No, I’m not bunny, I’m Tina.”
As the episode unfolds, Tina hits her breaking point during an exercise in music expression. While on a psychedelic trip with the group, Tina refuses to play the piano after Wolfie picks up her violin to express her own passion.
Tina tells Masha that she “never” wanted to play piano but once her family learned she had talent she was dubbed a prodigy and couldn’t escape it. Tina claims that Wolfie — who still calls her “bunny” as a nickname — only cares about her breaking through her playing block because it “serves her.”
Tina admits that she doesn’t have a passion for music and asks whether Wolfie will “love” her without their musical connection.
Wolfie tells Tina she “loved that girl,” the one who “made that magic” with the piano and if that version is gone forever, “I don’t know what I’m doing here anymore.”
