JoJo Siwa has nothing but good memories of the time she watched Kim Kardashian’s eldest daughter, North West.
“I did a little babysitting for her,” Siwa, 22, recalled on the Thursday, June 5, episode of the “Rosebud with Gyles Brandreth” podcast. “Her daughter North West was a big fan at the time. She was little, she was only 5.”
Upon learning North, now 11, was a Siwanator, the singer reached out to Kardashian, 44, to arrange a meeting. “I think I said, ‘If North ever wanted to be in a video, I would love to have her. I do these babysitting videos. I normally do it with YouTuber kids, but I could do it for fun with North. It’d be a blast, super easy. She wouldn’t even know that we’re filming. It’ll just be a fun hangout. Let me know if you’d ever be down,’” she said.
Kardashian loved the idea and even pitched one of her own. “She was like, ‘Oh, my God, I would love to. Could we film it for my show?’” Siwa recalled. “I was like, ‘Your show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians? Yeah, sure.’ And yeah, [they were] just so calm, so sweet, so down to earth, so nice, good people.”
Siwa appeared on a season 17 episode of the Kardashian-Jenner family’s iconic reality series back in 2019. On the show, Kardashian noted that Siwa reached out to her after she shared a video of North receiving a gift package of Siwa’s hair bows.
However, Kardashian expressed hesitation over North appearing on Siwa’s YouTube channel. “Even though she’s met people that she’s really liked before, I think having that on top of a YouTube crew filming it and in JoJo’s home, something that she looks at on YouTube all the time, I think it could be overwhelming for her,” she said in a confessional. “There’s a difference when she’s on our show. She knows everyone on the crew and is always with family, so we can really control what we film and what we do.”
While observing North’s hangout with Siwa, Kardashian became concerned with her daughter’s shyness on camera. After a quick FaceTime with a friend, North began to come out of her shell, so much so that she hilariously called out her mom on the show.
“My mom says you scream a lot,” North told Siwa, which made the latter chuckle. “She is exposing you right now.”
In Siwa’s YouTube video from her and North’s hangout — which was posted in March 2019 — the pair played hide and seek, made slime, danced together and explored Siwa’s colorful home. “What was your favorite part about the day?” Siwa asked North, to which she hilariously replied, “Making a big mess.”
Siwa has praised Kardashian’s parenting skills over the years, calling her a “very good mom” during a May 2019 Today interview. “She’s given me some very good words of advice. She was like, ‘You know, if you ever need advice with bullying, with hate, like, I’ve been there. I’ve done it. Just be you. You’re awesome,’” she added. “Just really, really nice words. And I was like, ‘Thank you so much.’ It can be hard.”
The following year, Siwa exclusively told Us Weekly that she was “homies” with Kardashian and her ex-husband Kanye West. (The former couple share four kids, including North, Saint, 9, Chicago, 7, and Psalm, 6.)
“I just talked to Kim, like, about a week ago about something, but I don’t remember what. Beats me,” Siwa told Us in May 2020. “Something that’s really cool about them is I feel like with Kim, if I’m ever like, ‘I need some advice on this,’ she’s a really good person. She really is a good person.”
