Blake Lively has sent a subpoena to Scooter Braun and his company amid her ongoing legal battle with Justin Baldoni, Us Weekly can confirm.
While legal documents have not been filed yet, a source confirmed to Us that Lively, 37, sent a subpoena to Braun, 43, and HYBE America and is seeking to identify any information that the company may have on the work crisis PR veteran Melissa Nathan reportedly did for Baldoni, 41.
Nathan worked on the case for one month. (Deadline was the first to report the news on Wednesday, June 11.)
Us Weekly reached out to Braun, HYBE America and Lively for comment.
Braun has served as the CEO of the company since 2023. In 2018, Braun and Baldoni appeared together in a roundtable on men and the #MeToo movement produced by Wayfarer Studios alongside Jamey Heath. (Heath is a defendant in Lively’s lawsuit.) At one point in the film, Braun noted, “We are all flawed.”
One year after the film, Braun came under fire after purchasing Taylor Swift’s back catalog of music from Big Machine Records’ Scott Borchetta. Swift, now 35, claimed at the time that she was not given the opportunity to purchase her masters prior to the acquisition. The Eras Tour performer announced in May that she gained control of her music catalog.
Swift and Lively, meanwhile, have been friends for years. Amid the legal battle, however, multiple insiders told Us that their relationship has been strained. While Lively has apologized to Swift for bringing her into the lawsuit — the pop star was subpoenaed by Baldoni’s team in May, but Us confirmed it has since been dropped — their “friendship is still wounded,” a source told Us.
News of Braun’s subpoena comes days after Judge Lewis J. Liman dismissed Baldoni’s $400 million countersuit and the actor’s $250 million libel complaint against The New York Times, who was the first to report the initial lawsuit. (Lively accused her It Ends With Us costar and director of sexual harassment and of launching an alleged campaign to destroy her reputation in a December 2024 suit. Baldoni denied all accusations at the time.)
Baldoni can still amend his claims for breach of implied covenant and tortious interference with contract, according to the judge. The deadline to do so is June 23.
Lawyers for Lively celebrated the legal decision, calling it a “total victory and a complete vindication” for the actress.
“As we have said from day one, this ‘$400 million’ lawsuit was a sham, and the Court saw right through it,” Esra Hudson and Mike Gottlieb said in a statement to Us, adding that they “look forward” to “seeking attorneys’ fees, treble damages and punitive damages.”
Lively, meanwhile, shared in her first statement after the dismissal that she promised to continue to “stand up” for women’s rights.
“Last week, I stood proudly alongside 19 organizations united in defending women’s rights to speak up for their safety,” she wrote via her Instagram Story on Monday, June 9. “Like so many others, I’ve felt the pain of a retaliatory lawsuit, including the manufactured shame that tries to break us.”
She continued, “While the suit against me was defeated, so many don’t have the resources to fight back. I’m more resolved than ever to continue to stand for every woman’s right to have a voice in protecting themselves, including their safety, their integrity, their dignity and their story.”
Lively noted that there are “protections out there” for women in need, sharing links to resources for “some of the incredible organizations” — including National Network to End Domestic Violence. She concluded, “With love and gratitude for the many who stood by me, many of you I know. Many of you I don’t. But I will never stop appreciating or advocating for you. — B.”
After the dismissal, an insider close to Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, exclusively told Us that the couple feels “relief and vindication.” The source shared, “Blake is feeling a sense of pride that she continued to use her voice and stand strong and the counterattacks will now no longer be given more air.”
Baldoni’s lawyer reacted to the decision in a statement, noting that the legal battle — which is set to go to trial in March 2026 — is not over.
“Ms. Lively and her team’s predictable declaration of victory is false, so let us be clear about the latest ruling,” Baldoni’s attorney Bryan Freedman told Us in a Tuesday statement. “While the Court dismissed the defamation-related claims, the Court has invited us to amend four out of the seven claims against Ms. Lively, which will showcase additional evidence and refined allegations. This case is about false accusations of sexual harassment and retaliation and a nonexistent smear campaign, which Ms. Lively’s own team conveniently describes as ‘untraceable’ because they cannot prove what never happened.”
The statement continued, “Most importantly, Ms. Lively’s own claims are no truer today than they were yesterday, and with the facts on our side, we march forward with the same confidence that we had when Ms. Lively and her cohorts initiated this battle and look forward to her forthcoming deposition, which I will be taking. We are grateful for the organic show of support from the public and for the dedication of the Internet sleuth community who continue to cover the case with discernment and integrity.”
