If Hulu is your streamer of choice, you may be planning to spend this weekend re-watching Modern Family for the 30th time. (We wouldn’t blame you if you were, that show is great!)
But if you’re itching for something different that’s still guaranteed to bring a little joy to your weekend binge, Watch With Us has you covered with recommendations of three great shows you can stream on Hulu.
Starring actors like Jenny Slate and Melora Hardin, these underrated gems are definitely worth giving a shot.
‘Pen15’ (2019-2021)It’s weird. It’s cringe. It’ll probably trigger Y2K flashbacks. It’s Pen15, the bizarrely wonderful Hulu comedy in which Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle play 7th-grade versions of themselves among a cast of real teens. Anna and Maya (the characters) are joined at the hip and totally obsessed with each other, but can their friendship withstand the perils of middle school? This heartfelt comedy is sometimes gross and sometimes earnest, but it’s always funny.
You’re almost guaranteed to love Pen15 if you came of age in the early 2000s, but even if you didn’t, it’s a relatable tale of adolescence handled by two hilariously capable performers.
‘Dying For Sex’ (2025)This limited series, based on a true story, stars Michelle Williams as Molly, a mild-mannered woman whose stage IV metastatic breast cancer diagnosis makes her realize she wants to live the last year of her life on her own terms. With the help of her best friend Nikki (Jenny Slate), Molly begins pursuing a “sexual bucket list,” hoping to fulfill the erotic desires she’s been repressing in her marriage.
Dying For Sex is an honest look at the intersection of life, death, love and sex. It’s brutally honest and tragic while also being very funny. If you loved Netflix’s From Scratch or HBO’s Somebody Somewhere, you’ll appreciate the emotional depths of this moving series.
If you loved Meghann Fahy on The White Lotus and Sirens, check out her breakout series The Bold Type. This underrated show from Freeform is like The Devil Wears Prada if Miranda Priestly were actually incredibly chill. Add in a splash of Sex and the City style romantic shenanigans, and you’ve got The Bold Type — and what a winning combination it is.
The series follows three best friends — Jane Sloan (Katie Stevens), Kat Edison (Aisha Dee) and Sutton Brady (Fahy) — who work together at the Cosmo-esque Scarlet magazine. Their boss, Jacqueline Carlyle (Melora Hardin, The Office), mentors them in the ways of publishing and life in this fun, emotionally intelligent series.
