Real Housewives of Atlanta star Porsha Williams’ ex-husband Simon Guobadia has a message for President Donald Trump after being deported following four months in an ICE detention facility – and it may not be what you’d expect.
Guobadia, 61, spoke exclusively to Us Weekly about his feelings on Trump’s immigration policies, the current ICE raids, and the protests going on across the country in opposition to the deportations.
Despite his traumatic personal experience, Guobadia does not have negative feelings toward President Trump, 78, or his administration. In fact, Guobadia said he hopes to talk to him soon.
“Donny, like I refer to him, we are very similar,” the businessman told Us.“We’re both Geminis, and some of his antics – I certainly can understand it. Sometimes [I would] say that we are misunderstood.”
“I don’t have any animosity towards the situation. I don’t have any problems with Donald Trump like any other CEO or chief executive, who I am. We look to hire the best people we can find. And the issues that he’s dealing with are no different than any other organization,” Guobadia said.
“I feel that I have a very unique perspective on this situation, considering that I was there for as long as I was. And there are so many things that I saw that I feel that I can help the administration with,” he continued.
Guobadia noted that he has no plans to “fight” to get back into America, but if the opportunity came about, he would come.
In regard to the ongoing protests against ICE across the country, he said he saw no issues with peaceful protests.
“America has always been a nation that accommodates protests, hopefully peaceful protests, protests our way, just a gauge of the sentiments of its people. And it comes down to what is the will of the government to address the needs of the people,” he said. “So protest is normal, is encouraged … as long as it results in reforms. And I think that not just in immigration, but certain aspects of what they’re executing right now needs reform.”
As Us previously reported, Guobadia, who has had issues with his citizenship, was taken into custody in February after flying into America. He was taken to a facility two hours outside of Atlanta, where he was kept isolated from others for a portion of his time inside.
“I understood why people would kill themselves, but I’m too strong to do that. But I understand why people, when you [are] put in a certain mental headspace, you start to understand why people do what they do,” he told Us.
He described the food as “terrible” and said the facility was overcrowded and poorly staffed.
Guobadia said the detainees are left in limbo and provided no real updates on their cases.
He said he was only told he was being released two weeks beforehand. Guobadia tells Us that despite the deportation, he is excited for the future.
