Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are experiencing another staffing shakeup as four team members leave the Sussex force, according to multiple reports.
The couple’s Los Angeles-based deputy press secretary, Kyle Boulia, and their U.K. press officer, Charlie Gipson, are no longer part of their staff. According to Hello!, which was first to report the news, two other members of Harry, 40, and Meghan’s private team have recently departed.
The Sussexes initially hired Boulia, the former United Talent Agency corporate communications manager, and Gipson, a brand manager at global communications firm Edelman, in April 2024.
Ahead of their exits, the press leads oversaw some of Meghan, 43, and Harry’s most high-profile events, including their Invictus Games attendance in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada in February. Boulia and Gipson were also involved in the pair’s trips to Nigeria in Colombia in April and August of 2024.
While the loss of four staffers seems drastic, Harry and Meghan aren’t strangers to employee turnover after appointing Meredith Kendall Maines as their Chief Communications Officer in February.
The couple also recently hired a new director of communications in Emily Robinson, who previously worked as a senior publicity director at Netflix. (Robinson oversaw The Crown and other shows during her tenure with the streaming giant.)
Sarah Fosmo as Meghan’s new Chief of Staff and the promotion of Miranda Barbot to Chief of Staff for Harry round out the recent changes, according to a May report in Forbes.
Harry and Meghan’s employment history has been a hot topic since they stepped down from their senior royal duties in January 2020 and moved to the United States.
The pair — who share son Prince Archie, 6, and daughter Princess Lilibet, 4 — made headlines in April 2022 when they hired former president Barack Obama’s secret service agent Christopher Sanchez as part of their security team.
The following month, Ashley Hansen began representing Harry and Meghan globally as their Global Press Secretary and Head of Communications, leading their Archewell team. In October 2024, Hansen announced that she was launching her own firm, Three Gate Strategies, with the royals as two of her biggest clients.
“I am incredibly grateful to The Duke and Duchess for their continued trust. Their unwavering support and belief in my new firm has been meaningful and is a testament to their leadership,” Hansen said in a statement at the time. “I knew when they first hired me that they were giving me the opportunity of a lifetime and I couldn’t be happier to continue working together.”
That same year, Harry and Meghan’s Chief of Staff Josh Kettler exited his post after three months. While the sudden departure fueled rumors that the couple were hard to work for, he exclusively told Us in September 2024 that he was “warmly welcomed” by the couple and their Archewell team. “They are dedicated and hardworking,” Kettler said of the pair. “It was impressive to witness.”
Last month, Forbes reported that Harry and Meghan added Method Communications to their communications team as they continue to expand their careers and community efforts.
“Chief Communications Officer Meredith Maines has retained the global firm Method Communications to bolster her team overseeing the growing business portfolio and philanthropic efforts of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex,” a spokesperson for the royals told the outlet in May. “Method is an integrated PR and marketing agency specializing in high-growth tech and consumer brands. The Sussex team also recently welcomed Emily Robinson as Director of Communications. Method is serving as an extension of that team.”
As Meghan’s With Love, Meghan show on Netflix enters its second season and her brand As Ever continues to thrive, the couple hope the addition of Method Communications will lead to even more growth, per Forbes. Harry, meanwhile, is continuing to focus on his philanthropic ventures, which include the Invictus Games.
Through all the changes, the majority of Harry and Meghan’s staff have remained happy with their bosses. One former staffer exclusively told Us in September 2024 that when they adopted a new dog, “The next day, I had a luxury brand leash and new collar on my doorstep.”
“They want to take care of us,” a current employee told Us of the pair in the same cover story. “Meghan will do things like, ‘You mentioned on the call your skin is bothering you, I put together a kit for you.’” The staffer revealed that when the employees visit the couple’s Montecito home, no one leaves empty-handed. “Whenever staff goes to their house, they leave with a basket with fresh flowers, fresh fruit, fresh eggs,” the staffer added.
